Introduction
Foundational fuels consist of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, C1-4 hydrocarbons, and aromatics benzene and toluene. An accurate, detailed chemistry model for foundational fuels is critical to modeling combustion of all hydrocarbon compounds and oxygenated fuels. We discuss the coverage of foundational fuels and the relevance of foundational fuel chemistry model to heavier hydrocarbons. We also briefly review the history of detailed combustion chemistry modeling development.
