Foundational Fuels and Foundational Fuel Chemistry Model

List of key foundational fuels
Key foundational fuels are listed below. The primary fuel compounds (shown in bold) are those found in the decomposition of the large hydrocarbons and real fuels, whereas the secondary compounds (shown in italics) are common fuels themselves. FFCM-2 attempts to describe the combustion of all of the listed C0-4 fuels.
| $\text{C}_{0-1}$ species | $\text{C}_{2}$ species | $\text{C}_{3}$ species | $\text{C}_{4}$ species | Aromatics |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| \(\text{H}_2\) (hydrogen) | \(\text{C}_2\text{H}_2\) (acetylene) | \(p\text{-C}_3\text{H}_4\) (propyne) | \(1,3\text{-C}_4\text{H}_6\) (1,3-butadiene) | \(\text{C}_6\text{H}_6\) (benzene) |
| \(\text{CO}\) (carbon monoxide) | \(\text{C}_2\text{H}_4\) (ethylene) | \(a\text{-C}_3\text{H}_4\) (allene) | \(1\text{-C}_4\text{H}_8\) (1-butene) | \(\text{C}_7\text{H}_8\) (toluene) |
| \(\text{C}\text{H}_2\text{O}\) (formaldehyde) | \(\text{C}_2\text{H}_6\) (ethane) | \(\text{C}_3\text{H}_6\) (propene) | \(2\text{-C}_4\text{H}_8\) (2-butene) | |
| \(\text{CH}_4\) (methane) | \(i\text{-C}_4\text{H}_8\) (iso-butene) | |||
| \(\text{H}_2\text{O}_2\) (hydrogen peroxide) | \(\text{CH}_3\text{CHO}\) (acetaldehyde) | \(\text{C}_3\text{H}_8\) (propane) | \(n\text{-C}_4\text{H}_{10}\) (n-butane) | |
| \(\text{CH}_3\text{OH}\) (methanol) | \(\text{C}_2\text{H}_5\text{OH}\) (ethanol) | \(\text{CH}_3\text{COCH}_3\) (acetone) | \(i\text{-C}_4\text{H}_{10}\) (iso-butane) | |
| \(\text{C}_4\text{H}_{4}\) (vinyl acetylene) | ||||
| \(\text{C}_4\text{H}_{2}\) (diacetylene) |
In an earlier effort, FFCM-1 was developed for combustion of H2, CO, CH2O and CH4; the current FFCM-2 extends the coverage to all C0-4 foundational fuels. The current release truncates at C4 chemistry and does not consider aromatics (C6H6 and C7H8).
